The best LVP/LVT flooring practices
When you choose waterproof flooring, especially in the luxury vinyl product line, there are always a few things to keep in mind as you select the products that are perfect for each area of your home. Preventing moisture issues is essential, even with waterproof products, and we'll make sure you get the best options for each space. Let’s talk about some of those now.
Vinyl plank flooring is an excellent option for every area
Luxury vinyl flooring features two specific products. Vinyl plank flooring, also known as LVP, and vinyl tile, also known as LVT flooring. Both of these formats offer the same great appearances and benefits.
A level subfloor is a requirement for these floors, especially when floating them, to prevent the locking mechanism's disengagement and edge damage if vertical movement occurs. If necessary, low spots can be patched, and high places can be ground down. Variations in the subfloor should be no more than 1/8 to 3/16” variation in ten feet.
Even with waterproof materials, moisture is always a problem. Moisture tests in at least five spots are necessary, and you’ll want to make sure to keep those results in case of moisture issues ever come up. High moisture or standing water levels can cause mold and mildew, discoloration, staining, or insects' food source. You can also test for moisture by taking a six-by-six plastic piece to the floor and checking for moisture residue the next day.

Make sure the flooring is not pinched or restricted in any way to avoid buckling, squeaks, or disengagement of the locking mechanism for floating floors. It's essential to make sure there is a quarter-inch gap along the perimeter of walls and cabinets and that the materials are not secured to the substrate. Also, make sure to check whether a T-molding is required in doorways or archways.
